The Brave Men's Bridge

... is a footbridge across a gorge. It's actually just the walking platform that's made of glass; the bridge is suspended on steel cables. Each of the glass panes is 24 millimeters (one inch) thick, and 25 times stronger than normal glass.

A worker involved in constructing the bridge confidently informed the China News Service: "The bridge we build will stand firm even if tourists are jumping on it. The steel frame used to support and encase the glass bridge is also very strong and densely built, so even if a glass is broken, travellers won't fall through."

The bridge is approximately 300 metres long - just short of 1,000 feet. It replaced a wooden bridge in 2015, after the National Park authority had experimented by replacing a small section with glass. On completion it was the world's longest glass bridge, but it was superseded in 2016 by another glass bridge in the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon area, about 300 kilometers (186 miles) away. This one is 1,400 feet long - and twice as high.
